In this type of CTA, you’re likely inviting someone to enter your contest or giveaway, or subscribe to your email list. Notice that this CTA is written in the first person, which makes it more convincing from your reader’s perspective.
2. Get started
Shopify uses this CTA on its website to invite its audience to start a 14-day free trial and receive marketing emails. It’s a commonly used action phrase, but it’s proven to work. You can also try adding the word “now” or “today” to drive a sense of urgency.
3. Learn more
Sometimes, you just want to invite your audience to increase their understanding of a particular topic or get further details about an offer so they can make an educated choice. In that case, this CTA would be great.
4. Enter now
This CTA is popular for giveaways and promotions that run for a limited time. For example, our UpViral user Michael Winter, used it on his Christmas giveaway signup page that drove over 3,100 leads in less than a week.
5. Join the movement
This CTA is great for cause-related marketing campaigns where you’re inviting an audience to support a social issue (like mental health, climate change, homelessness, etc.) to bring about positive change. By using this CTA, you’re also taking advantage of the social proof principle as it gives off the impression that other people are already part of your “movement.”

Tips for a Good Call-to-Action
How do you motivate an audience with your call-to-action? These five tips will make it easier for you.
1. Don’t be afraid to get creative.
There may be a ton of tried-and-true CTAs, but don’t hold yourself back from spicing things up. For instance, instead of “Shop now,” you can go for “Treat yourself today” or “Shop low prices!” You can always make up your own call to action phrases as long as they make sense in context.
2. Use words that trigger an emotional response.
Emotion can influence consumer behavior, which makes it a powerful ingredient for effective CTAs. According a Harvard Business Review article, consumers are driven by the desire to:
- Stand out
- Feel confident
- Have a sense of belongingness
- Become the person they want to be
- Succeed in life
Examples of words that may serve as emotional motivators include: Together, Success, Connected, Earn, Rewards, Definitive, Fool-proof, Reliable, Proven, Trusted, Master, Secure, Results, Reclaim, Bonus, Life-Changing, Mind-blowing, and Uncover.
3. Test your calls-to-action (AB split testing).
The smartest way to write better CTAs is to actually AB test or “split test” them. This involves comparing two versions of your CTA to learn which drives more conversions.
If you’re not satisfied with the current results of your page or campaign, you might want to experiment with different CTAs, wait for a few weeks, and check the report of your AB testing tool. There are plenty of options out there, and Google Optimize is one that you can start with for free (you can run up to five split tests per website).
4. Make it stand out on the page.
Persuasive language isn’t enough to get your audience’s attention. Design also matters so that your CTAs are optimized for higher conversions. Use a button color that pops from the page or post — like green or blue. Make sure that your text is big enough and readable. Furthermore, test out other colors and CTA button shapes, font styles, and possibly emojis.
5. Use a zero-pressure approach when necessary.
Urgency is incredibly useful for selling more; however, there’s no need to use it all the time. Some people are simply looking to benefit from your content without hitting the purchase button. Let your audience feel assured that they can try something without any deadline or risk of losing anything.
